How Do I Know When My Roof Needs to Be Replaced?
The roof is an essential asset in your home since it safeguards your family against intruders and weather elements. On that account, you need to ensure that it is in excellent condition at all times. Don’t wait until you experience leakages and start using buckets to fetch water coming from the ceiling. Here are signs that your roof needs dire replacement.
1. Discolored Walls and Ceilings
If you notice water damage on the ceilings and walls, we advise you to get the roof replaced. The chances are high that there is a leak in your roof, causing the discoloration on the ceiling and walls. Therefore, you can call an expert instead of walking on the roof as it can be fatal.
2. Old Roof
If the roof has been housing you for 12 to 15 years, it needs immediate replacement. For instance, asphalt shingles have a limited lifespan as compared to metal roofs. Thus, we recommend that you install new ones since, at this point, the roof is worn out and old.
3. Loose Roof Tiles
Tiles are quite aesthetic, but once they become loose, they no longer serve the function of harboring your family. If more than one tile has come off, you can’t call for repairs since the damage is evident. Hence, we believe that the best option is to replace them for safety reasons.
4. Moss and Mold Growth
Another red flag that will alert you that the roof is in trouble is moss and mold growth. The roof could be having gaps that are letting water seep through to provide a place for the mosses to thrive. The fungi and bacteria will then invade your roof causing water damage in the long run.
5. Particles in the Gutters
Consistently checking your gutter is a prudent idea since you can see the amount of debris that your roof is shedding. If the residue from asphalt shingles is increasing, you need to have the roof replaced. Once the protective coating wears off, the roof will not serve you accordingly.
6. Damaged Flashing
Flashing is critical since it diverts water from the seams to prevent any runoff on the roof. If it is damaged or loose, water will seep and leak to the ceilings and walls. Therefore, you need to get a professional to replace the structure before things get out of hand.
This way, your home will be safe from water damage such as mildew growth and rotten wood.
